Which undergraduate degree is better for entering management consulting?

I’m trying to decide between two undergraduate programs and need some advice. I want to get into management consulting after graduation, but I’m not sure which path would give me the best foundation.

My options are:

  • Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus on Data Analytics
  • Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in General Management

I’ve been reading about what consulting firms look for in new hires, and I keep getting mixed information. Some people say the analytical skills from a data-focused program are really valuable these days, especially with all the digital transformation work that consultancies do. Others tell me that a broader business management background gives you better overall skills for understanding different industries and client needs.

Has anyone here made a similar choice or worked in consulting? What would you recommend based on your experience? I’m also wondering if one of these specializations would make me stand out more when applying to the big consulting firms.

both degrees are just fluff tbh. consulting firms aren’t sweating the major too much - they wanna see you can think critically and talk well. I’ve seen folks w/ philosophy or engineering snag jobs at McKinsey. your GPA and how you do in interviews matter WAY more. just pick what you can actually deal with for four years instead of stressing over it.
