What's your experience with product management interview prep platforms and practice tests?

Hi everyone!

I’ve been thinking about trying out some online interview practice platforms and wondering if other product managers here have used them. Do you think these mock interview services actually help when you’re getting ready for PM roles? I’m especially interested in knowing if they cover the type of questions that come up in real product management interviews.

Also curious about test series - are they worth the time and money? I want to make sure I’m preparing the right way for my next interview cycle.

Any recommendations or feedback would be awesome!

Mixed results here. Tried Pramp and IGotAnOffer last year - case studies were decent but they just teach the same RICE/STAR frameworks everyone uses. Recording myself answering questions helped way more (cringy as hell but it works). Test series are fine for metrics and technical review, but they won’t prep you for weird curveballs like “how would you improve a cemetery?” that companies throw at you. Worth it if you have leftover budget after other prep.

Honestly? Most of these platforms are just overpriced question banks with a fancy UI. Sure, they’ll teach you the same cookie-cutter frameworks everyone uses, but real interviews are way messier and more unpredictable. The practice tests are especially useless - they’re glorified quizzes that don’t come close to the actual pressure of sitting across from someone who’s already written you off. Save your money and do mock interviews with friends or former colleagues instead.

Interview prep platforms are helpful, but they’re not perfect. They’re great for getting used to the format and timing, especially case studies and product design questions. Most decent platforms mirror real interviews well and cover important areas like market sizing and prioritization frameworks.

However, behavioral questions tend to be more complex in actual interviews than what these platforms might showcase. The quality of the platforms can vary significantly, so I recommend trying free trials first to find what works for you. I also found that test series were effective in identifying knowledge gaps, particularly regarding technical concepts and metrics. Just remember, they shouldn’t be your sole prep method; interacting with actual people can provide valuable feedback on your communication skills.

Definitely do it! These platforms really boosted my confidence and helped me structure my answers way better. The practice totally pays off when you’re in real interviews.
