What's the real ROI of PM certifications for ex-consultants?

Seen mixed reviews about Google/PMI certifications. As someone with 4 years in consulting but zero product launches, would these move the needle? Worried about looking like I’m papering over real experience. Any direct hiring manager perspectives?

2023 survey of 45 FAANG PM hires shows only 12% held certifications. However, 68% of transitioners from consulting found value in product analytics courses (SQL/Python). Recommendation: Prioritize technical demonstrables over process certs.

Certifications serve two purposes: 1) Signal genuine commitment to product craft 2) Fill tactical gaps (agile, PRDs). But they’re table stakes. Better to build a prototype or write product teardowns. One client transitioned using their certification capstone as conversation starter for PM interviews.

i did the google cert in 2 weeks! put it on linkedin and got 3 recruiter pings. but technical interview was still brutal lol
