Hi all! I’m eager to hear from Trinity alumni, especially those who have taken the MSc in Management or MSc in International Management programs. I’m thinking about a transition from a science background into business consulting, and Trinity is one of my leading choices.
My Background:
I hold a Master’s in Neuroscience from the University of Calcutta (Gold Medalist, CGPA ~6.9).
I earned my Bachelor’s in Zoology from Bethune College, with a score of 87.31%.
I’ve completed an internship lasting over 6 months in Bioinformatics at TMSL.
I have also worked at the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics focusing on lab tasks with zebrafish and siRNA.
I’m currently starting my own initiative aimed at raising awareness about PCOS and providing solutions.
I have held various leadership roles like class representative, tech/design head, and student volunteer.
My Aspirations:
I aim to achieve a lucrative salary by securing positions in top consulting, innovation, or strategic roles. Additionally, I seek academic validation.
My Uncertainty:
I’m caught between several paths:
Applying for MS–PhD programs abroad in neuroscience or life sciences,
Preparing for CSIR-NET for a PhD in India,
Continuing to grow my startup,
Or making the switch to business consulting via Trinity’s MSc in Management.
What I Need to Know About Trinity:
How is Trinity’s MSc in Management or International Management perceived in Ireland and across the globe?
Do international graduates land jobs in consulting firms like EY, Accenture, or BCG after finishing their studies?
Will my background in science and startup efforts help me stand out, or could it be a disadvantage?
What are the realistic job prospects and visa opportunities post-graduation?
Can this program genuinely aid in transitioning to high-paying leadership roles?
If you were in my situation, considering my academic, research, and entrepreneurial background, would pursuing Trinity’s Management MSc be a smart choice for long-term success, or would you suggest sticking with the science path?
trinity’s decent but won’t work miracles. you’re overthinking this - your neuroscience background is already solid. sure, consulting firms like science grads because they handle data well and think analytically, but most consulting work is just fancy powerpoint presentations. why ditch a successful startup for another degree? the ‘lucrative salary’ expectation is pretty naive - most msc grads still start at entry level no matter how impressive their degree looks. get some actual consulting experience first before jumping into another master’s program.
trinity’s mgmt program is decent, but big names like bCG or mckinsey may not recruit heavily. ur science background can be an asset as they like techy folks. just so u kno, the visa situation for grads in ireland is kinda messy, so look into that b4 making any decisions.
I’ve worked in both research and business, so here’s my take on your situation. Trinity’s Management MSc has solid recognition in Europe and great networking opportunities, especially if you want to break into Dublin’s tech and consulting scene. Your neuroscience background is actually a huge advantage for strategy consulting - they love analytical thinking and complex problem-solving skills. You’ll just need to get good at explaining how your research experience applies to business problems during interviews. Don’t see your startup as a roadblock - it’s actually proof you understand business and can take risks. Why not do both? The MSc gives you the structured business fundamentals you’re probably missing, while your startup shows you can apply what you learn. Ireland’s post-grad visa situation has gotten much better for skilled graduates, with real paths to permanent residency. I’d go for Trinity while keeping your startup going. Having both academic credentials and real business experience makes you stand out.
Your science background is perfect for consulting! Trinity opens doors and neuroscience skills translate well to analytical work. Don’t ditch your startup though - you can run both at the same time!
