Hi everyone! I just landed an interview for an investment banking analyst position at a lower middle market firm, specifically on their energy team. They’re looking for an Engineer in Training with solid technical background, which matches my operational experience in the energy sector.
Here’s my concern - I have zero background in finance or accounting fundamentals. I’m worried they might throw some traditional finance interview questions at me from standard prep materials.
For those who’ve been through similar interviews where technical expertise was the main requirement, did they still test you on basic financial concepts? I’m trying to figure out how much time to spend cramming finance basics versus focusing on my technical knowledge.
Any insights from people who’ve interviewed for similar hybrid technical-finance roles would be really helpful. Thanks!
