Need advice for second round PM interview at education startup

Hey folks, I’m looking for some guidance on my upcoming product manager interview. I just finished the first two stages at an education technology startup and now I have the third round scheduled with two department managers from different teams.

The previous rounds focused mainly on behavioral questions, product thinking scenarios, and situational challenges. I gave comprehensive responses that seemed to resonate well with the interviewers. My detailed answers appeared to address their follow-up questions before they even asked them.

For this next stage with the cross-functional managers, I’m wondering if I should maintain the same detailed response strategy or adjust my approach. The format might be similar but I want to make sure I’m fully prepared since this role means a lot to me.

Would love to hear from anyone who has experience with multi-stage PM interviews, especially at edtech companies. Any insights on what to expect or how to prep would be fantastic. Thanks in advance for any help!

Cross-functional interviews focus on team dynamics instead of just your individual skills. Department managers want to see how you’ll fit into their workflows and work with their resources. Here’s the thing - 60% of PM failures happen because of poor cross-department coordination, not technical issues. You’ve already shown you can think like a PM, so now prepare examples of times you’ve successfully worked with engineering, design, marketing, or sales teams. Figure out what each manager cares about and where product decisions might create friction with their department. Practice explaining complex product stuff using terms that make sense to their specific function. EdTech startups especially want PMs who can connect technical requirements with educational goals and user acquisition.

you’re doin great! for the cross-functional round, try to b more concise - they want to see if u can communicate well across teams. focus on how u’d collaborate with their specific departments & ask about their challenges too. good luck!

Honestly? You’re overthinking this. Two rounds in means they like you. Cross-functional managers just want to know you won’t be a pain to work with. Skip the comprehensive responses - they’ve got other meetings. Show you get what their departments do and won’t micromanage the hell out of them. And don’t go on about how much this role means to you. Sounds desperate.
