Mock interviews with ex-MBBers: how harsh is reality check actually?

Considering paid sessions with former consulting interviewers but worried about demoralizing feedback. For those who’ve done this: does the criticism focus on fixable techniques or personality traits? How did you recover mentally after brutal sessions while still prepping?

they’ll rip you harder than a PM on deadline. my ‘consultant’ told me my structure was ‘cute but useless’ then billed me $300. Jokes aside - thick skin helps. Real interviews are worse cause your career’s on the line, not just ego.

did 2 mocks last month. First guy was nice but vague, second destroyed my math assumptions :sob: Still worth it tho? Maybe split cost with study group…

Quality varies - vet your interviewer’s background thoroughly. The best ones dissect your process, not character. Post-session, I journal specific feedback points and create a 72-hour improvement plan. One senior partner’s ‘brutal’ note about premature conclusions became my strongest skill after focused practice.

My mock interviewer kept interrupting with ‘irrelevant!’ until I cried. But hey, now I can pitch ideas under fire. Tip: Do these late in prep when basics are solid. Too early and you’ll just get wrecked on stuff you’d fix anyway through practice.
