Choosing Between Imperial Economics & Strategy vs LSE Management & Strategy for Investment Banking Career

Hi there! I got accepted to two masters programs and need help picking the right one. I want to work in investment banking or consulting after graduation, specifically targeting strategy roles at major firms.

Program Options:

  • Imperial College: MSc Economics & Strategy for Business (1 year)
  • LSE: MSc Management & Strategy (1 year)

I’m really focused on which one will give me better chances at top tier consulting firms and investment banks. Does anyone know how recruiters view these programs differently? I’m also wondering about things like networking opportunities, placement rates, and which professors have better industry connections.

Since both schools have good reputations, I’m trying to figure out the practical differences. Which program actually helps students land interviews at prestigious firms? Any alumni from either program who can share their experience with job hunting afterwards?

Thanks for any advice you can share!

I’ve been in recruitment for years, so here’s my take on how these programs look to the industry. It really comes down to where you want to end up in investment banking. LSE Management & Strategy pulls recruiters from front-office roles because the school has solid connections with major banks, and the program focuses on strategic thinking that fits client-facing jobs. Imperial’s Economics & Strategy is great too, but it’s more quant-heavy and tends to appeal to risk management or structured products teams. Don’t underestimate networking - LSE’s finance alumni network is incredibly strong, especially in London’s financial district. That said, Imperial’s smaller classes mean you get more one-on-one time with professors who have industry ties. I’d hit up info sessions at both schools or contact their career services directly. Ask about their recruitment partnerships and where recent grads landed at your target firms.

both are solid choices, but lse has a stronger finance rep. imperial’s got the quant edge that some ib teams look for. best bet? stalk linkedin and see where grads from both ended up – should give you the 411 on placements!
